The video games market could become a $300 billion industry by 2025, with the growth of mobile gaming and innovative offerings, like cloud gaming, according to a new report from GlobalData. The last couple of years have seen the growth of a new trend – free-to-play online video games such as Fortnite and Apex Legends. Since it is completely free to register and play these games, one would think that the gaming industry isn’t making much money off of them. On the contrary, the free-to-play model has proven to be one of the most profitable types of video game models in the modern age. Today, most of the gaming industry’s revenue comes from the high demand for in-game items, which can be purchased with real money. Intellectual property (IP) is a vital element in the video game industry: development contracts, employment agreements (IP ownership), distribution, advertising and pretty much every license in this industry. IP seeks to protect developers and their creative work from pirates and competitors that want to take a game work and use it without authorisation and without providing compensation. In 2011, the US Supreme Court put video games on a par with other traditional artistic media stating, “like the protected books, plays and movies that preceded them, video games communicate ideas – and even social messages – through many familiar literary devices (such as characters, dialogue, plot and music) and through features distinctive to the medium (such as the player’s interaction with the virtual world).” Developing a winning IP development and exploitation strategy is key to the success of any game studio. The main IP assets that can be found in video games are the following: - Copyrights - Trademarks - Patents Copyrights can be found in many form throughout video games. Copyright is, probably, one of the most important IP tools for most game companies. In a nutshell, copyright protects the expression of ideas: Source code - Characters - Choreographies - Buildings - Maps - Conceptual art - Box design - Soundtrack and sound effects Script, dialogue and the storyline. Trademark enables game studios to establish and protect their brand identity; which in turn differentiate them from the competition and to build customer loyalty. Patents can be awarded to video game innovation that are novel and authentic enough. Some example of video games features that have been patented : The FIFA game map, enabling player to identify their team mates. Pokemon GO, interaction with the natural world and the frequency of apparition of different Pokemons at different locations. Patent applications undergo a case-by-case analysis and criteria might be interpreted differently. For video game studios and designers, the SIP platform offers quick IP protection tools in form blockchain registry and certification ; that enable a certified timestamped and immutable registration of their IP. For those in need of special support, our network is here to help so do get in touch. "We have a strong intellectual property rights system, and my Administration has aggressively responded to the theft of American intellectual property in order to protect our entrepreneurs’ most valuable assets — their ideas and innovation." The Donald Trump administration might no always understand how to play the political game, however the surely do understand the business game. A month to celebrate entrepreneurship, innovation and the importance of intellectual property as the key to the US competitive advantage. In a world where business is sometimes like war or even war ,IP deeply matters and to protect a country's IP interest should be at the forefront of each nation's agenda. #globalization #london #startup #US #IP #NationalResources #defence #creativeindustries #intellectualproperty #investors https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/presidential-proclamation-national-entrepreneurship-month-2019/?utm_source=link

The rise of new technology such a such as AI, Internet Of Things and Virtual Reality between others, are constantly pushing the boundaries and redefining the characteristics of intellect. What it mean to be human was mostly characterised by intelligence for those that consider themselves atheist or agnostic. As for 2019 many self-learning computers program have breached the ceiling of human intellect by over performing and crushing the best human mind at specific task, which was expected as technology evolves. From winning the most complex and intuitive board game against the world best player , to outperforming a team formed by the greatest cancer specialists at diagnosing , Artificial Intelligence has proven to be a worthy treat to human dominance. This exponentially increasing trend had led to the public outcry of many; from scientists to Billionaire and even US presidency candidate. The advance of technology will eventually make many humans obsolete, in a capitalist world where corporations and their interests are unfortunately too often prioritised. These new technology will help corporations reduce cost while improving efficiency and profit margins. No more employee's benefits in form of holidays pay, pension plan, redundancy packages , childcare benefits etc... AI, Robots and other technologies will do the job at almost no cost and therefore become the preferred form of employee. Corporation , servicing others corporation and entities for the sole benefits of their shareholders. A grim futuristic picture, painted by a profit led business model, advance of technology and human intellect shortcomings. My solution to this challenge, will be to increase and protect the ownership rights of every individual. Every individual should own and be rewarded for their creation, no matter how insignificant and those rights should be transferable to their relatives. An example of this will be how any AI should pay royalties to all creators and inventors whose data was utilised as learning tool for the AI, and these royalties should be transferable as any asset to the creators and inventor 's relatives. All network should reward each and every one of their users for the value they add to the network. This approach, I believe, would help re balance the effect of new technology. Some will argue , who should be in charge of redistribution or how should it be implemented; my believe is it should be embedded within the each network. This is the premise that impulsed many blockchain project and the reason ( hopefully ) why Facebook launched Libra. At SIP Management our goal is to enable each individual to own their creation and work through registration and protection as their first step. I would love to hear your opinions on the matter so do comments; let'have a conversation.
